Seeing Ghosts Cover Reveal

Hello, my pretties. Look at this cover, will you? I remember when I saw this cover, when I learned Jimmy (James Garcia Jr.) had a cover reveal for his next new book, and this was jaw-dropping gorgeous. I simply couldn't wait till the day I could present it. And here is another version, the actualy front cover, but I thought this picture with the old house was simply wonderful and had to paste it up on top. Okay, ready?

This is a real departure from Jimmy's usual horror genre, as he tells us it is paranormal romance. And I'm certain this story will wow you. Sounds too good to pass up. The following is the description of the book:

Paul Herrera finds himself bequeathed a mysterious old house near the California central coast by a deceased aunt he never knew. The woman who shows it to him is the spitting image of his wife, taken from him three years before in a senseless car accident which also took his unborn son. While he deals with the ghosts of a past he cannot let go, there are new ghosts Paul must deal with - alone for the week in the expansive two-story house that he will soon didscover holds many secrets. Eventually, he will see that he is surrounded by ghosts as he struggles to hold onto the only thing that he has left in this world - his sanity.

Pretty spooky and intriguing. I want to know if Paul can deal with his "ghosts".

Seeing Ghosts is scheduled for release on June 5th.
And if you'd like to visit his blog, I suggest you do to keep up-dated for this and all his other books, my goodness, he has two others already out and more on the way. This man is one busy dude!

Guest Post: James Garcia Jr. & Flash Point

Image of James, Jr. GarciaHaving been posting for a few years here on blogspot, I've gotten to know a number of special people who happen to be authors. And good ones, at that. The days of waiting for someone to acknowledge the talent that is out there is slowly, but dramatically going out the window with the abilty to publish our own. These are people who've worked hard on their novels in between their own jobs, their lives and all the things (i.e. sickness, family drama, deaths, etc.), that happen around them. Despite the fact that you may think in the back of your head "I'll never see this thing finished!" you some how do.
Case in point: My very good buddy, James Garcia Jr. (we all know him as Jimmy), has come a long way from his beginnings as a writer-become-author. As someone who also has struggled with getting a work published, or even written, I have a special place in my thoughts and heart for Jimmy. He had to contend with a few rough spots not only getting his first book, Dance on Fire, published, but then a rocky road to getting this second one, Dance on Fire: Flash point to fruition. You gotta admire someone who can pull themselves out of the quagmire of getting their work out there with determination such as did Jimmy. So, without further ado, I give you Jimmy on his newest work.

Dance on Fire: Flash Point
Five years ago, two vampires descended upon my home town of Kingsburg, California. It’s a small town. We have a population of only about 11,000. They left a lot of bodies in their little war.
They knew each other, you see. The eldest of the two was the one responsible for the younger. He called him his son. Nathaniel wasn’t pleased with this reference, considering Vincent murdered his father while he was in the room of his old house back in Romania.
Nathaniel wanted nothing but to be left alone. Little did he suspect that he would find himself a member of a family, merely by saving a woman and her children from Vincent’s evil hands. Barbara Lopez believes that God brought Nathaniel to her family because he is a vessel for good. Nathaniel is not so sure. In fact, he knows it isn’t true. He’s undead, and knows that there is no place in God’s kingdom for one such as him.

Or is there?
I told this story in 2010. I called it Dance on Fire. You’ve heard about this story on these very pages. I have come before you to tell you that the story wasn’t over. This Monday, I release Dance on Fire: Flash Point. Here’s the story…

Five years after the death of their only child Tiffany, Steve and Angie Rosen receive an unexpected guest to their Morro Bay, California home: their daughter. She comes with a tale of having suffered a terrible head wound in the fire that took their Kingsburg home, causing her loss of memory and migraine headaches that force her to hide from daylight in order to prevent. Tiffany's reemergence is treated like Manna from Heaven; however, her story is only half true. Tiffany is a vampire and their daughter in name only. She sleeps during the day and hunts for human blood during the night, and has come back to enact a twisted revenge upon those who ruined the plans of her master, the notorious vampire, Vincent. And she is not alone.
Five years after the terrible events that reshaped the Swedish Village, Kingsburg lies unsuspecting as five vampires descend upon her with a great evil in their black hearts.
Five years after old wounds have finally healed and the old fires were thought extinguished, Police Chief Michael Lopez and Officer Mark Jackson and their families find themselves surrounded when fires blaze anew. The good vampire, Nathaniel, has pledged his service to these people, but he is no longer among them. He lives high in the Oregon Mountains near the California border, seeking whether God might have a place in His kingdom yet for him.
When Nathaniel discovers that Tiffany has returned, will he be too late to stop her? And will his desire to protect his friends destroy what God has begun in him?
It will all begin with a Flash Point.

I want to thank my good friend, Lorelei, for giving me an opportunity to share my crossover vampire series with her fans and friends. I really appreciate you folks taking the time to listen.

Vampire Ascending featured in Kings River Life Magazine

Every once in a while your karma comes back and brings you good stuff too.

After my first book, Vampire Ascending came out, I went to work on promoting it. Didn't know what the heck I was doing. But along the way I met a lot of great folks, some of them happen to be other writers. One is James Garcia Jr. We did a book swap. I read his book and enjoyed it, and he read mine and enjoyed it. We gave each other's books reviews at our respective blogs.

Well, you'd figure that would be the end of it.

No. You see, James--his friends call him Jimmy--has a couple of jobs. One is working for a virtual magazine called Kings River Life Magazine. Well a couple of weeks ago Jimmy contacted me and told me he planned on writing up an article about various books he read over the last year that impressed him, and wanted some information from me about my book and myself, etc. I was very excited about this, and got all my info up-dated and sent it off to him.

Well, the article just went live about an hour ago. Here is the link:http://kingsriverlife.com/01/21/the-new-wave-in-publishing/

Four other books are featured as well, and there is a GIVE AWAY, so if you're interested in reading the article there you go. You can check out Jimmy's other reading picks while there as well.

Have a great weekend!

Coffee Klatch Monday

I have a cup of coffee--creamer & Splenda--and a cookie this morning. What did you have?

Hi, and greetings to old and new fans/followers out there. I'm unable to see my followers list, so you'll forgive me that I'm not able to return the favor unless you make a comment here. Thanks for the add, at any rate.

This is going to be a trial thing, this Coffee Klatch Monday. What is Coffee Klatch? It's a casual gathering for coffee & conversation. So, if you are participating this is all I ask of you:
1. Leave a comment. Say hello.
2. Tell me what you are having at this Coffee Klatch (i.e. coffee & bagle or whatever)
3. Click on someone you don't know who leaves a comment and check out their blog! And all of a sudden you have a new friend and possibly a potential follower. The whole idea is to follow the meaning behind a coffee klatch in the old sense of a casual gathering and chatting/greeting. If you want to join in, please do. I'd love to hear from you, what you are doing today or this week, and hope to accomplish. If you are doing NaNo, let me know how it's going. If you are joined up but are not getting anything done with it, share that. (I did join, but early on decided it was too much for me--got too much this month to do.)

Tell us what you've done this week, or what you've blogged about. Anything you wish to share. We all need support and kind, encouraging words from our fellow bloggers/writers. I know that not everyone can stop and say hello, but I'd love to hear something from any of you who have not made a comment here in a long while. Again, if you are doing the NaNo, I don't expect it. This will be a lean month of comments at Lorelei's Muse. But if you do read this, and have in the past made comments on something, I think you for your kind words and encouragements.

Meanwhile I'm going to tell you about a few blogs/people you should check out.

The first one I share in the name of all writers who have had doubts about themselves and their writing at least once. If you've never seen The Kill Zone blog, you might want to go check it out. James Scott Bell is known for his suspence writing, as well as his contrabutions to Writer's Digest. He has a list of things you should NOT do as a writer called "How To Feel Miserable As A Writer".

And this just in: James Garcia Jr., author of his fast-paced, vampire book, "Dance on Fire", has given me an excellent review at his blog. If you have been considering reading my book, Vampire Ascending, but have not commited, you might want to read his review. THANKS JIMMY! I think he gave me a fair review here.

Whatever Wednesday : Review~Dance On Fire by James Garcia Jr.

I've been busy as of late, and so I have not posted much through the week, lately. I've been trying to find coinsiding posts for the days of the week. Such as I have Hunk's Thrusdays, which seems to be popular, Muse Mondays, and now I've got Teaser's Tuesdays--in which I've decided to give a few lines from my up-coming book Vampire Ascending--as long as I don't give anything away, of course.

I think Wedesdays are a tough one, so I'm calling it "Whatever" because I never know what I might have come up that I can blog about. A sort of "free" day post so that if I don't have anything I just won't post.

Todays Whatever Wednesday is a review of Dance on Fire by James Garcia Jr. We sort of book-swapped and he now has my book, if he finds some magical extra hour in a day, he might have time to read it! *wink to you, Jimmy*

From what I remember reading, following his blog and such, I know that he had been working on this book for twenty years and finally had it published with Vamplit Publishing, and I know that was a wonderful moment for him, and I also know that when the paperback verson came out he was so very proud. I do know how that feels.

I liked this story for several reasons. I thought the basic police procedural plot was a good way to hold the tension and keep it tight. Written in 3rd person, and given from different character's POV was well done. I especially like that he told the background of his two vampires throughout the story and it helped not only hold your attention, but also developed the two vampires. You have your basic good against evil, for sure, but I liked that he pit the good vampire against the evil one.

I don't want to give away too much about it, I think you can discover this great book, and I know that he is working on the sequel called Dance on Fire : Flashpoint

You can visit James Garcia Jr. Here.

Left by UPS Man ~ Dance on Fire

Hi, everyone! Happy Tuesday. Well, it's happy because it ain't Monday.

I'm happy because I've just arranged a book swap with James Garcia Jr. And his book, Dance on Fire, has just landed on my doorstep and I was eagerly awaiting it.

He wrote a nice personal note on the inside to me, and I will do the same on mine, as I'm preparing to order a few of my book, Vampire Ascending, soon.

As anyone who is a book lover can tell you, the first thing we all do is read the back fly cover and inside for other significant things that give us a clue as to what is inside. I've already read the first page and believe me, this looks very promising. I can tell just by this first page--possibly 200 or so words, that Jimmy has cultivated a very flowing, vivid writing style. I can't wait to get into this book. Once I have read it I will give him a review on it.

At the moment I'm reading another book which I picked up about two weekends ago. It's called Fallen by Lauren Kate It was slow at the start. I couldn't get into it until things began to pick up more toward the middle. Wow. I'm glad I've continued to read it. I'm still not sure whether I'll like this. It is a YA. I don't normally like YA books, since they always seem to take place in a structured school setting. I don't want to go any further into this book, because I might writing a review.

Well, it's a short post today. I'll keep you posted.

Oh, and this Thursday I'll do another HUNK THURSDAY post. That seemed to grab everyone's attention.

Interview With James Garcia Jr.

I'd like to welcome to my blog James Garcia Jr., author of Dance on Fire. James is a super guy to take time out to do this interview and I really think all of you will glean something from it.

What do you mostly write, or what genre?

First of all, let me thank you so much for giving me this opportunity to reach a new audience. I really appreciate getting to know both you and your audience.

I cut my teeth reading books like “The Amityville Horror”, “The Exorcist”, “The Entity” and “Headhunter” by Michael Slade, so naturally I began writing horror. Later, after I began going to church, I went through a phase where I thought I should write more for God. Eventually, I realized that, although I was a Christian, I liked reading books and watching movies that kept me on the proverbial edge of my seat. With that in mind, at least with this vampire series that I am writing, I backed off some with the sex, violence and profanity, aiming more for a PG-13 rating. That may not always be the case, however. There are some real tear-jerkers within me that want to come out, but there are some darker things, too. I think with sex, often less is more, perhaps with the violence as well. With the language, one must realize that, were we to be chased by a crazed killer, we wouldn’t exactly be yelling “shoot” and “darn it”. Lol.

How many hours on an average do you write in a week/day?

I’m a terrible example right now for writers, because I am not writing every day the way we should. I have spent the past year doing PR for my debut novel. During the time that I was looking for representation, I managed to write the sequel very quickly. On the other hand, I am writing. I write for my blog; I write twice a month for the Wicked Writers blog and sometimes for others; I write once or twice a month for a local on-line magazine where I live called Kings River Life Magazine. Were it not for my day job, I would be writing every day.

Do you have a blog?

Yes. Like many of us, all that we want to do is write. Unfortunately, we have to help sell what we have created. My publisher was kind enough to build one for me, since I knew nothing about the subject before I began. Then she handed me the keys, as it were. Now I have to keep it going. I try to use it as my platform, not only for my writing, but for my life as well. You won’t find out a lot about my kids and home life, but you will read reviews if I stumble across a superb film or novel or CD. I try to keep it interesting the best that I know how. http://jamesgarciajr.blogspot.com/

What are your writing aspirations for the next year/what do you hope to accomplish in that time?

Well, I am 42 years old and started this entirely too late. Were I 19, I would quit my day job and simply write. With one novel ready and another in the wings, I felt that I should push the PR machine in order to see what might happen. If little did, at least I would have no regrets because I had achieved the dream, which was to simply see a novel finished. Seeing it published has been a dream come true and a wonderful miracle. I will have the second novel in the series, Dance on Fire: Flashpoint, published in early 2011. After that, we’ll see. The series will extend at least one more novel, but there is the beginning of a haunted house story within me that has really begun to bubble to the surface. Yet, if 2011 ends up being a real busy year with little success, then I may have to back off. You will see why that is with the next answer…

What is James Garcia's typical day like?

Well, here’s the reason why I may be so unorthodox. I am a supervisor at Sun-Maid Raisin Growers of California. I am up at 3:00 am and in the office by 4:00 am. I work nearly eleven hours, five days a week. This leaves very little time for everything else. I have about 5 hours each day to spent time with my wife, my two sons, run errands, keep up with the house, keep my blog active and keep up with the blogs of others, write posts for others, write articles for the magazine I work for, etc. It isn’t easy. On the other hand, I really am living the dream. Yet, I cannot keep up this pace for long. In one more year, I will be making some serious decisions as to the value of pushing myself as hard as I have.

How and when did you become interested in writing?

I discovered hard rock music about the same time that I discovered horror novels. When I realized that writing song lyrics (thinking that I might want to pursue music) was too restricting, I moved over to much longer works. I suppose one might say it must have been part of the grand scheme of things.

What is it about writing you like the most?

Being creative has always been easy for me. I have told others that it is simply as if there are movies playing within my head, and all that I have to do is write down what I see. There’s also that part of me that seems to crave being artistic or creative. It’s just what I do. My mind is pretty quick when it comes to making things up.

How did you choose your publisher?

I spent about 18 months combing the Internet for an agent or publisher. The first place that I queried loved the novel and offered me a contract. Hours later I found out that it was fraudulent and I got out. It was very disheartening, as one might expect. It is very important that authors vet out who they query. There’s a lot of lying, cheating and stealing going on out there, so one must be cautious. Next came the months of anguish. Actually, with my novel being a crossover horror/Christian story, I can well imagine that it isn’t an easy sell. Eventually, I found Vamplit Publishing. They were a new house just getting started that loved anything vampire (hence the name). My publisher wasn’t scared off by the religious overtones.

Is this an eBook, or POD publisher?

Vamplit is an e-book publisher, primarily, because that is the future. However, knowing that not everyone has yet to embrace the notion, we are just beginning to produce paperbacks, too. My novel, Dance on Fire, is the first. As e-books continue to take off, we hope to be ahead of that. We have a rapidly growing stable of writers and their novels in our second year of existence, and should find ourselves in a good place very soon.

Do you have any up-coming events?

Hopefully before the summer is here I will be holding signings. In the meantime I am simply casting the net out further. I just created some press kits and am getting in contact with newspapers and magazines in my area. At the same time I am talking to retailers about partnering up. It is very new right now with more details to follow.

What is your Work In Progress? And when do you hope to get it out there?

My third novel in the series is only an outline at the moment. As I said before, I want to see what this year has to offer before I begin clearing what little time I have now in order to schedule time to write. Since this whole writing career is a work in progress, perhaps events will shape what things will come. I really don’t want to quit writing, but something will definitely have to give in order for me to keep up this pace.

What advice would you give beginning/struggling writers?

We have to ask ourselves why we are doing this. Is it merely a hobby and simply for the creative enjoyment for ourselves? Or is it a deep desire that will strangle us if we do not let the stories out? We should be reading and writing daily. Now, If only I had the time to take my own advice…

I saw that you said that it took you 20 years to write this book and get it published. What kept you from writing?

I have fun telling people that Dance on Fire took 20 years to write. I love to see their facial expressions. The truth is I was in school when I began writing this piece. Soon I was married and beginning my Sun-Maid career. Our two sons followed as did home ownership. My wife quit working and went back to school in order to begin a teaching career. We sold our first home and then built another. I went from being a regular worker to becoming an Administrative Supervisor. Perhaps more importantly, there was some maturing that needed to happen as well. After several failed attempts at jump starting the novel, I finally came to a place in time where I realized the magnitude of the regret that I was going to have. It was then that I was able to dust the novel off and see it completed.

Thank you Jimmy for coming to my blog. I think we can all related to many of the things you've said here.

Thank you once again for offering me this platform, Lorelei. If your readers take nothing else from this interview, I hope it is this: have no regrets. Thankfully, my novel has been read by many and they seem to like it. If I end up being only a minor local celebrity, then so be it! I will go to my maker with a few regrets in life, but none will have anything to do with not chasing the one dream that I have had since my youth. I’m an author now and no one can take that away.
I hope that you all see your dreams come true as well.
